Friends and film lovers, you are warmly invited to my first solo photography show, My Mother’s House Has Many Rooms, at Lovely Fools Salon, 433 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn.
The first half of My Mother’s House (February 10-Sept 20 of 2024) channeled my friends’ poetic ancestors in black and white 35mm portraiture: Gal Costa, Katherine Dunham, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Ana Mendieta, Francesca Woodman, and most especially Ming Smith, who held her first photography exhibition at the hip hair salon Cinandre in 1973. The second half of the show, currently on view at Lovely Fools by appointment, explores my friends’ actual ancestors, especially mothers, in color 35mm portraiture. Many of the images tell stories of the ‘Up South’: the American South and Latin America in New York.
